Home Altars
The private, unique and somewhat uncomfortable environment that is the home of my Grandmother is explored through my respectful and precise photographing of her space, possessions, and decorating style. From collectables, dolls, and family photos, the one thing that resonates the strongest throughout her home is the overwhelming amount of religious iconography. The figurines, statues, and pictures throughout her home can only begin to show a fraction of my grandmother’s faith in God and the after life. A strong sense of mortality resonates throughout the home, as I have focused my camera on many of the areas set like altars, shrines in some cases to those that have passed. The sterility and morbidity of her home all contribute to the uncomfortable environment that illustrate what home can signify to one person.
